  GREGORIO FUENTES  (1898-2002)

“Pure breed” Spaniard born in Lanzarote, Canary Islands and settled in northern fishing town of Cojímar, north from the Cuban capital, he was the inseparable friend of Ernest Hemingway’s, patron of his yacht “Pilar”, and source of inspiration when he wrote the novel “The Old Man and the Sea”. This habitual cigar smoker received several decorations, among which that of Captain of the International Game Fish Association.
