Known as the Bronze Titan, he is the greatest military strategist of the Cuban independence quests, owing to his value, intelligence, political capacity, personality, and employed tactics. His revolutionary intransigence became gigantic during the Baragua Protest. He personally headed the East-West invasion. Being a zealous defender of sovereignty, he wrote in his political memoirs: “Liberty must not be mended. It must be conquered with the edge of the machete.” He was born in Santiago de Cuba and died in San Pedro, Havana Province.
