Poet, novelist, essayist, playwright, and translator of Anglo-Saxon poetry, he has published tens of novels, essays, and short story books. He has delivered lectures in dozens of the most renowned universities in the United States, as well as in higher learning centers of the five continents. He performs the duty of Director of the Editing House of Casa de las Américas. He was awarded the National literature prize in 1996.
