Born in Camaguey. She stayed 18 years in the National Team of Volleyball as one of its major figures. Gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, Atlanta 1996 and Sidney 2000. Outstanding performances at World Championships and Cups and at some Grand Prix are some of her notable successful events. She was chosen among the most outstanding athletes of the XX century and after her retirement she entered the Athletes Commission from the International Olympic Committee, in correspondence to a proposal of the distinguished Juan Antonio Samaranch.
